Osteopathy

Osteopaths are healthcare professionals who are experts in the musculoskeletal system (joints, muscles and associated tissues) and its relationship to other systems of the body.

Osteopathic practice is a safe and effective form of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of health issues.

We see people of all ages, from babies to the elderly and everyone in between, including pregnant women and elite athletes.

How can osteopathy help?

Common conditions often helped by osteopathy include back and neck pain, shoulder and neck stiffness, headaches and migraines, and joint pain. We can also help with repetitive strain injuries (RSI), postural problems including changes during pregnancy, nerve pain (including sciatica), and sports injuries. In general, if it’s a muscle or joint problem, we can usually help.

Children can suffer from similar muscle and joint issues as adults. Babies can also suffer from musculoskeletal pain and discomfort following birth, or postural challenges in early years. Often gentler osteopathic techniques such as cranial osteopathy are used.

What to expect

When you first visit us, we will ask you about your current symptoms and medical history. This will help us make an accurate diagnosis. It is natural to worry about what may be causing your symptoms, and we can discuss any concerns during your consultation.

We will conduct a routine examination and discuss with you what we believe is causing your symptoms and the best course of action to be taken. If we believe osteopathic treatment is appropriate, we will discuss and agree a treatment plan with you.

We will normally begin your treatment at your first appointment. You may experience mild discomfort afterwards, but in most cases this will resolve within 24 hours. Treatment may require several visits, three to six visits are often needed. You are welcome to bring someone else with you to your consultation.
